Gifts of Securities

A gift of a security that you own offers two distinct tax advantages:

First, you are not taxed on the appreciation in value and, second, you are entitled to an income tax deduction for the full market value at the time of the gift, if you have owned the stock for more than twelve months.

To preserve the tax benefits it is important to follow these procedures.

If the stock is physically in your possession . . . do not endorse it but send it as is to:

Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation
310 South Boulevard
Richmond, Virginia 23220

In a separate envelope send a stock power with your signature to:

Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation
P.O. Box1901
Richmond, Virginia 23218

If the stock is held in a brokerage account . . . it should be transferred by wire transfer directly in to the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational custodial account by your broker.  Click here for instructions.
