Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation Awards $5,000 Scholarship
Evan O'Dorney, a 13-year-old California eighth grader, is the 2007 Scripps National Spelling Bee winner and a recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from the Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation.
The Sigma Phi Epsilon Educational Foundation is a partner in higher education. Each year, we provide over $1,000,000 in scholarships and programming grants to assist SigEp members and other college students. We sponsor the Scripps National Spelling Bee because we believe in the stated purpose that when students improve their spelling, they increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. This principal aligns with SigEp's mission to build Balanced Leaders for the World's Communities. Good spelling is a basis for education and communication, which are building blocks for success, credibility and leadership.
The entire SigEp family congratulates Evan on his success in this national contest.
Previous winnners are Anurag Kashyap, the 2005 recipient, and Kerry Close, the 2006 recipient.
